🎧 Headset & Radio
Comm is the one skill every department shares. A running show is a room full of people who cannot see each other, working off a handful of words that have to mean exactly the same thing to all of them. Learn the seven lessons, keep the phrase card open while you work, then prove it: you get the situation, you pick the call.

About this lab: the phrases here are the ones in general use across US theatres, with the West Coast and Los Angeles habits called out where they differ — the “Go for ___” answer, plain speech over ten-codes, and the film-set vocabulary that has crossed into LA stage work. Anything that changes house to house — channel numbers, which cues get a warning on top of their standby, the exact wording of a call — is marked House rule. Ask your stage manager on day one; do not assume the last building’s rules travel.
📚 The seven lessons
Work top to bottom the first time. They build on each other — the cue sequence only makes sense once you know what a channel is, and the safety calls are the reason all of it is strict.
